What can I say about my day? Only that no two are ever the same. There’s always usual things like answering e-mails and reviewing targets but the participants that come on the project and the work we do in sessions make the job fabulous. The first thing I do when I start work is put the kettle on; I’m guessing that I’m not the only one that needs a boost of caffeine in the morning. During my coffee, I check my diary and see what I have planned for the day. I send text reminders to all participants that have appointments with me (many of our participants have complex needs and can easily forget). Then my appointments start. The first participant does not want to be seen at the Scarborough Hub as he has old associates there that he is trying to avoid in the area. His appointment therefore is at a cafĂ© or the Library where he feels safe and does not have to worry about who he sees. I quickly check his notes ...

Wednesday 19 th December It’s getting closer to Christmas and I can feel the excitement around the office. Today I got to the office at 9am and caught up with a few emails and had to book a few participants onto some courses via email and the dashboard. One course being a CSCS course which starts on 22 nd January and runs for 8 days, at the end of the course the participant obtains a CSCS card and will be able to get a labouring job on a building site which is his aim. I had one appointment booked in today at 11am, this was to update some paperwork with a participant and prepare for the Pathways to Better Wellbeing course with WEA starting 8 th January. I am going along to the first one to support this participant so they feel at ease and comfortable settling in. I spent 60 minutes with this participant. Now to get ready for the Selby Christmas Party for some of our Participants. Cash for Kids in Leeds kindly donated us 11 sacks full of presents to give out...

As the weather gets colder and many of us use our weekends for winter walks and nights snuggled up with our favourite film and comfy pyjamas it’s very easy to forget that not everyone has that privilege. In the run to Christmas I was overwhelmed by the kindness shown by others, it seems so many of us take a moment to think at that time of year about people less fortunate than ourselves. Those who might be missing a place at the table, those who wonder where they will sleep, and those without loved ones or friends. As people we have this inept ability to draw on kindness generosity and strength, and I’ve witnessed so many wonderful acts of kindness, solidarity and care. Going into the New Year it can be easy to forget that for so many those problems are very much still there. Start this New Year as you mean to go on, a small act of kindness and support can go a long way. Big thank you to all the local communities, business and organisations that continue to support.
